In a world where Tottenham are in the top three and the Gunners are lagging a large 13 points behind them in sixth, it has certainly felt grim for fans over the last few months and years. Arsenal continues to give fans lot to cry about, but is there a glimmer of hope at the end of the Emirates tunnel?
It has been hard for Arsenal fans to keep smiling this season. You just have to catch five minutes of Arsenal-Fan TV to see their collective resignation to yet another year of disappointing score-lines and mediocre football. But there is potential to turn it all around and claw back some silverware.
We are world-class. Which other side can boast to being Super-League victors, holding a dozen FA premier league titles, 10 premier league cups and even a UEFA Champion’s League trophy?
In fact, Arsenal have been cultivating quite an impressive cabinet over the last 30 years, having won a total of 44 trophies in their history.
This a cohesive, well-oiled team who own the pitch and create their own success. Arsenal Women have been doing it for themselves since 1987 and they have not relented this season. Unlike their male counterparts who are an unhealthy 33 points from the top and languishing in sixth position, the Women are a strong fourth in the Women’s Super League (WSL) with a game in hand and eight points off the top spot.
Unlike the first team’s reception this Sunday, the ladies suffered no boos as they managed a draw against table leaders Chelsea. They have now extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 10 games, good news for the girls as Wembley looms on the horizon.
The lady Gooners take their FA cup campaign to the semis against Everton on Sunday 15th of April. This showdown will struggle to be as thrilling as the five-nil thrashing the girls handed to Charlton in the quarters, but fans can hold faith that the side can win and gain us yet another piece of silverware.
So, I implore all of you out there still distraught over the fact that we might actually finish below Spurs to look on the bright side! Arsenal are still within a shot of the super league title, we’re closing in on the FA cup AND Arsenal Women are a full league above Tottenham Ladies… Reasons to be cheerful!
